For the past ten years I have provided CAD
training and support services for architectural firms and Fortune 500 companies.
I specialize in Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2 and 3. In prior years, I supported
Softdesk third-party applications for
AutoCAD, including Auto-Architect, Details, and Building Services (HVAC,
Electrical, and Plumbing) products.
Concurrently, I have maintained an architectural practice providing services
for residential and small commercial clients. I have also written numerous
articles for CADALYST Magazine, covering reviews of architectural CAD software applications, utilities, and rendering software, and have co-authored the
monthly CAD Manager column with Mark Middlebrook.
In the early 1990's, I spent a year as a software Product Development Manager
for Vertex Design Systems, a technology start-up company. I was responsible for
managing the architectural personnel involved with developing an AutoCAD-based
application for generating architectural construction detail libraries and
parametric tools for generating and drafting details.
Prior to getting heavily involved in the Information Technology aspects of
architectural practice, I spent five years as a Project Architect, Senior
Associate, and Director of Operations for the San Francisco office of a large national
architectural firm. In this organization we specialized in retail shopping environments, office
complexes, and mixed-use commercial projects. As Director of Operations I
was responsible for the architectural production and support staff in the
office, and developed several computer-based tools for fee budgeting, staffing
projection and management, and project scheduling.
Before relocating to San Francisco, I spent almost fifteen years in the Aspen
and Glenwood Springs areas in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Here, I worked on
many ski resort projects including condominiums and ski lodges, residences, and
commercial projects such as a super markets, banks, and offices. As a principal
of my own firm, I completed such projects as bank buildings, offices, motels, a
municipal fire station, and the major renovation of an historic hotel.
I have done architectural photography for over thirty years, on a
professional and personal basis. My experience encompasses large-format color
and black-and-white photography through current high-quality digital imaging
equipment and techniques. I presently am exploring and creating 360 degree
panoramas and virtual reality scenes for presentation on the World Wide Web.
I live today on the coast just south of San Francisco with my
wife Cassie, the Development Manager for a non-profit county childcare agency,
and daughter Lindsay, a beautiful and brilliant high school student and dancer.
My son Aaron studied computer technology and Web design and development at San
Francisco State, and is presently providing freelance Web design services for a
variety of clients. My son Jeremy has been involved with outdoor recreation equipment
sales and support for several years, and currently is a manager in a retail
outdoor equipment store in Oregon.
